One-week itinerary on a sailing boat in Ionian Greece with departure and return from Lefkada

An itinerary on a sailing boat in the Ionian islands starting from the island of Lefkada, reachable by direct flight from many international airports.

In one week we will visit the islands of Lefkada, Meganisi, Atokos, Kalamos, Kastos, Itaka, and Kefalonia. In a stretch of sea with regular winds and protected from storm surges thanks to the many nearby islands.

LEFKADA – VATHAIAVALI – MEGANISI – 2 HOURS OF NAVIGATION

We start our itinerary from the marina of Lefkada. Direction for the first swim in the turquoise water of Vathaiavali cove, on the continental coast.

We will leave refreshed for a short sail to Meganisi, a small paradisiacal island formed by many narrow fjords surrounded by greenery. We will look for an anchorage in one of these green coves to spend an evening in nature, with the possibility of going ashore to visit the characteristic Stavros village with a short walk.

MEGANISI – ITAKA – NAVIGATION HOURS 3

We leave the green Meganisi to head towards white cliffs and turquoise waters in the legendary Itaka. Here we can anchor for a breathtaking swim in the beautiful cala Filiatro.

In the afternoon we will move in front of the village, in a very suggestive anchorage closed on all sides by hills, in a natural harbor surrounded by a picturesque village with narrow streets stalls and many excellent taverns.

ITAKA  – KEFALONIA – 3 HOURS OF NAVIGATION

We set sail from the island of Itaka for a sailing of about two hours until we reach the island of Kefalonia. Here we will look for an anchorage among the small coves on the east coast, such as the beaches of Koutsoupia, Lazarus and Kako Lagadi. In a green and rocky setting with crystal clear water with emerald reflections.

In the evening we will move in front of the coastal village of Agia Effimia. We anchor inside the small port which offers excellent protection from wind and waves, as well as an excellent bakery in the morning and for those who want the possibility of going ashore for a walk or an aperitif.

KEFALONIA – KASTOS – 4 HOURS OF SAILING

In the morning we say goodbye to Itaka for the last time, and leave for a nice sail to the small island of Kastos. Despite the geographical proximity to the continent, Kastos is a world of its own where everything flows slowly and simply.

We will be able to anchor in a Caribbean cove surrounded by nature. The water is truly among the most beautiful in the whole Mediterranean. On land it is possible with a short walk to reach the village, a fishing village with an atmosphere of other times. Do not miss a aperitif in a real windmill very suggestive at sunset.

KASTOS – KALAMOS – ATOKOS – 2.5 HOURS OF NAVIGATION

We leave the island of Kastos to visit its bigger sister, the island of Kalamos, just an hour away by boat. We will anchor in the splendid cala Gerolimionas for swimming, lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon another little sail to the islet of Atokos, a small uninhabited island with high white cliffs and thick Mediterranean scrub, which create a wonderful contrast of colors with the blue of the sea. Sleeping here is a unique experience, immersed in nature in the shelter of this small solitary island under a sea of stars.

ATOKOS – SOUTH LEFKADA/NORTH ITAKA – 3 HOURS OF NAVIGATION

Starting from Atokos, if conditions permit, with a navigation of about 3 hours we can round the extreme SW of the island of Lefkada and anchor in the scenic beaches of the western side of the island such as the rocky Katsiki, or the long white sand of Egremni. Day under the high white cliffs diving into the water with a thousand reflections of blue.

With winds from the east or south east we can sleep here. Alternatively, we can set off in the great gulf of Vasiliki, or again towards Itaka, to find a good anchorage and spend another night immersed in the nature of the Mediterranean.

LEFKADA SOUTH – PORT OF LEFKADA – 4 HOURS OF NAVIGATION

We have reached the last day of our itinerary, we will have to skirt the whole island of Lefkada to return to the port of departure, located in the extreme north of the island.

Last swims between the coast of Lefkada and the island of Meganisi as we go up to the port of Lefkada where we will spend the night.
