Itinerary for a weekend on the Island of Elba with westerly winds

When westerly winds like Ponente blow on the Island of Elba we will head to the east coast of the island to find the best conditions for beautiful sailing with flat seas, crystal clear water for swimming breaks, and to spend the night in safety sheltered from the waves.

SALIVOLI – CERBOLI – ORTANO – PORTO AZZURRO – NAVIGATION HOURS 3

Let’s start our weekend right away with a nice dip in the clear water of the pristine islet of Cerboli, about an hour away from Salivoli by boat. Refreshed by the bath, we hoist the sails to head towards the Gulf of Ortano.

For those who love snorkelling, Ortano offers a characteristic rock, which detaches from the coast creating an area of shallow water. Ideal for diving with mask and snorkel in hand to observe the vast variety of fish that inhabit the island.

In the afternoon we will sail towards the gulf of Porto Azzurro, one of the most beautiful and characteristic villages of Elba with its silent harbor and a town animated by nightlife, good restaurants and characteristic little shops selling fossils and semi-precious stones. Here we can choose whether to enter the marina to better enjoy the town’s nightlife or sleep in the harbor, with the possibility of going ashore for a walk, an aperitif or dinner out.

PORTO AZZURRO – CAVO – SALIVOLI – NAVIGATION HOURS 3

The following morning we have a wide choice of beaches and coves within the vast gulf of Porto Azzurro such as Calanova beach, or Barbarossa and Terranera beach. After lunch, a nice sail along the east coast of the island up to Cala delle Alghe, just north of Cavo. A small inlet surrounded by a characteristic cliff which offers an excellent shelter from the wind for a last dip before returning in the afternoon to the port of disembarkation.
